Help us celebrate our birthday!
Thanks to generous community members the Art Museum of WVU has become an essential site of learning, reflection, and inspiration — not just for our faculty and students, but for the community and state.
Donor support has made so much possible in our first five years. Here are just a few highlights:
We’ve served the community: More than 7,500 K-12 students visited the museum’s galleries and Nath Sculpture Garden on docent-led field trips – many of whom traveled on buses funded by the museum’s Abby Robin Jacknowitz School Travel Fund. Visitors of all ages, on campus and in the community, have taken part in more than 1,000 hours of museum programming, like Snow Much Fun! Family Day and our regular “Lunchtime Looks” gallery talks.
We’ve hosted exhibitions: Since opening, the museum has hosted 15 exhibitions featuring artists from around the globe, drawing more than 30,000 visitors to the galleries. Exhibitions have included Studio Window: The Prints of Grace Martin Taylor (2016) and Shepard Fairey: “Work Against the Clampdown” (2017).
We’ve added to the collection: The Art Museum’s collection has grown, adding more than 425 works of art, primarily through donations and purchases with donor supported funds. Notably, in 2019 the museum received the highly competitive Richard Hamilton Acquisition Prize from the International Fine Print Dealers Association Foundation.
We’ve had some fun, too: Members of the Friends of the Art Museum have enjoyed special receptions and events, including previews of new exhibitions with guest speakers, annual celebratory dinners, and trips to cities like Pittsburgh and Cleveland to visit museums and meet artists and collectors.
Our future is bright and with your support … the sky is the limit! Your gift will promote relevant, engaging and vibrant experiences at the Art Museum of WVU for many years to come.
As we celebrate the fifth anniversary of our opening, please consider giving the Art Museum a special “birthday gift” this year.
