The College of Law is West Virginia’s only law school, and the Clinical Program serves as one of the state’s major legal services providers. The need for free legal services is stark – West Virginia had the nation’s 6th highest poverty rate, even before the Covid-19 pandemic. Through the Clinical Law Program, students undergo a transformative educational experience while bridging the access to justice gap for thousands of West Virginians.
Our new Clinic Director, Nicole McConlogue, joined us in July 2020. She’d like your help to celebrate: her birthday on July 3, our collective emergence from the pandemic, and most of all, one year as a proud Mountaineer! Nicole thanks you so much for your support. Let’s go!
Independence Day Match!
Access to legal services is an essential component of economic stability. Every dollar an attorney helps their client recover from a scammer, avoid paying to an unfair judgment, or earn in a small business venture is a step toward the client's financial freedom - and toward a thriving economy for West Virginia. In recognition of Independence Day, Nicole will dollar for dollar match gifts totaling $500 today.
The Clinical Law Program is the College of Law’s premier opportunity for experiential learning. In this course, law students practice law in a real-life setting under the supervision of faculty attorneys. The Clinic is structured as a law firm with nine practice groups: Child & Family Advocacy with Medical-Legal Partnership, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Immigration, Land Use & Sustainable Development, Litigation & Advocacy, Taxpayer Advocacy, United States Supreme Court, Veterans’ Advocacy, and the West Virginia Innocence Project. About 80 law students participate in the Clinical Program each year. |
